1st Reconaissance Battalion At Camp Pendleton

Dear Friends,

While we have been working hard during the summer months, we have been playing too. Below are some photos from a visit with the 1st Reconaissance Battalion at Camp Pendleton. Along with some other USC Marshall Partners , I got the unique opportunity to spend a day with the Marines—climbing and rappelling, viewing a live fire demonstration by a sniper squad, getting a briefing by the Marines and watching hand-to-hand combat demonstrations. Many thanks to the Marines—both for what they do and for letting us be a part of it for a day.

Speaking to the LA5 Rotarians

Laine introduced at LA5 Rotary Meeting.

On July 17, I was introduced as a new member at the LA5 Rotary Club meeting at the California Club.

The LA5 Rotary Club is celebrating its 100th year and is one of the largest and oldest community service organizations in Los Angeles.

In other news, I spoke to Real Estate Investment Clubs in Pasadena and in Irvine. I spoke about my investing experience as well as some of the issues that arise in real estate and partnership litigation.

I also attended a CREW luncheon where Dick Ziman, founder of Arden Realty, spoke about the current real estate market and where he sees it going.

Sadly, I also attended the funeral services for Ray Watt, a pioneer in real estate in Los Angeles (and throughout the western United States). While I had known Mr. Watt for most of my life, the photographs and stories at the service of his accomplishments were incredibly inspirational and moving. A further testament to his enduring legacy was the packed crowd for a man over 90 years of age. Read about Ray Watt’s life in this article.
